Eight Belles (Kentucky Derby 2nd place)

I understand that the filly Eight Belles suffered major injuries to her ankles today, but was it that untreatable????? I am sure the animal rights activists will have a hay day with this one. I know we have a few horse people here and was just curious if you would have done the same? I also wonder if she would have won? Do think her injury happened before the finish?

What else could be done..with two broken legs?.. Geeze...she couldn't stand! All those vets do is tend to those horses. It's their sole practice. Personally, I don't think that is the issue, though I cried and still get tears just thinking about it. The thoroughbred racing industry needs to take a long hard look at their practices. I wouldn't attend a horse race or a dog race.It's all animal abuse as far as I'm concerned. Only a very few have a good life. IMHO.:(

I've owned horses all my life and even one fracture is usually fatal, two legs would be impossible. Very sad but they did the right thing. Horses are designed to stay on all four most of the time and treatment for even one fractured leg is difficult at best.
