We’ve all lost loved ones... precious special lives that inspired us or filled us with joy... I was thinking that it might be nice to have a place to memorialize those we love who have passed on. I’ve always thought that when we reflect on a loved one who has passed, their star in heaven is energized and shines a little brighter.

Sometimes in the course of our lives, we meet a special soul that changes us immutably forever. Thanks to Pete, Be, Spicy, and Vespers for sharing your time with me.

And you know who you are. When we lose a dog, we mourn. Not because he is gone, but because we are hurt that we are left behind. He is in a place far. far better than we have here. Where there are no snakes that bite, and no accidents that happen, where they can look down at us, everyday, and say to us in the language that only loved ones know, "I'm waiting for you. I'll just chase bunnies until you are here again with me." Celebrate for him, for all he gave you while you were together.

I am not as eloquent as Brenna with my own words, but I would like to dedicate this quote (author unknown) to the same very dear friend:
"A heart of gold stopped beating, two shining eyes at rest.
God broke my heart to prove, he only takes the best.
I know you had to leave me, but you did not go alone.
For part of me went with you, the day he took you home"
God speed

I have been sitting here reflecting on all of my Dobes who are now my little stars at night. All but one were rescue Dobes.
Sasha, Red, Kojak, Bomber, Winston, Deagon and Elvis (and my two non Dobes Poncho and Sam)
Thank you for lighting my life for the short time you were here.

Yes dear friend, I don't think anyone can put this in words better than Brenna did. But, please know it is good to mourn. We can't heal unless we grieve. And when you do, remember all the good times and know that there will be many more when you meet again.
Please know that we are here for you. Take care.

Jacob, the black dog, was my best working (scent) dog EVER! He would regularly get up to watch the sunrise. Jacob retired when he was a vibrant 16 years old, and died almost 6 months later (he threw a clot). His daughter, Nanna, lived a happy 15+ years. Not just longevity. They had full and productive, happy, healthy lives!

Brenna, are you still involed in SAR? I saw on the news tonight one SAR team in Indiana preparing to go to the coastline for hurricane gustav. I hope they aren't needed.
Brenna, your picture of Jacob-the dog looking out the window, VERY much reminds me of our Kobe. Truth be told he was really my 19 yr old daughters dog. The two of them had a bond like I have never seen. What a great dog. He was so very much loved. He will be gone two years in October. He bloated twice. Survived the first time then 1 yr to THE DAY bloated again and died. We miss him, but my daughter was so overcome with grief she still mourns for him and has not gotten over him. I had a necklace made for her with his picture on it. It's her cherished treasure. Her nickname for him was "The Poopers" and "Boobie" - hee hee just thinking of it makes me laugh!! We made up songs about him, oh the memories!
Kobe- may you see your sweet girl again someday! We miss you.
