Hi there everyone. A very warm (make that searing 45 degress Celcius) greeting from India.
But, before I proceed, let me thank Elaine & Arthur Greenwood for inviting me on to DSNN. I hope everyone will have a happy time here and share the wealth of knowledge and information with a singular purpose and objective. That is what these forums should be all about, shouldn't they?
This can be quite long, so it shall be my endeavour to be as brief and succint as possible. To start off with, let me begin by saying that the show season is here is crammed into a 5 month period commencing in October and ending in February, though a few clubs are now looking to start a month earlier, with stragglers filling in March.
We basically have All Breed Shows, though Sepcialities are becoming the order of the day but that latter cannot and will not replace the All Breeds shows for sheer competitiveness and variety. To win a line up in an All Breed show is considered significant and carries much weightage.
Average entries in All Breed Shows are between 250-400 depending on location of the show. The first 8 placed dogs form what we term line up or board placings. We also have a BIS-Bred in India (BI) which is an extremely cogent placing, considering the imported contingent that one is always competing against.
The recent past has seen numerous imports into the country - all breeds, especially the Dobermann, Yorkies, Pugs, Labradors, Great Danes, GSDs, Huskies, Shitzus, Apsos to name a few. The entry of big 'players' with big money has seen the entry of foreign handlers, which has somewhat transformed the entire scenario of the weekend family outing that dog shows used to be. Whether this for the better or for the worse, time will tell. Actually, it is already doing that.
We follow the English system of CCs (Challenge Certificates) where a dog winning 3 CCs under 3 different judges (one CC must mandatorily be after the age of 12 months) qualifies for the title of Champion. Winners from the breed classes compete against each other for CC Dog & CC Bitch (and Reserve CC - a non cognizant award now). The CC Dog & Bitch then vie with the Champions for BOB and Reserve BOB, irrespective of sex.
BOB & RBOB winners are eligible for Group judging and first 2-3 exhibits from each group are eligible for the BIS line up. The highest placed Bred in India dog from this line up is automatically elected BIS Bred in India (BI).
I must run now, as it is getting late and have a 0515 hours wake up tomorrow morning. More later.
Over & Out.
